Client

Hyder Consulting Ltd on behalf of Penwith District Council

Services

Inter-tidal and sub-littoral surveys, fisheries and marine mammal and basking shark studies culminating in the production of the marine ecology chapter for each of the above Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).

Penwith District Council propose to make improvements to existing harbour facilities, including coastal protection measures and up dating fish market facilities. Due to the scale of the projects, EIAs needed to be undertaken.

Baseline data to inform the assessment of impacts on the marine environment was obtained through a series of desk and site based studies, including: comprehensive desk study using records from ERCCIS, and specialist national databases and reports; intertidal biotope survey; dive surveys; consultation with local and national bodies to gain information on fisheries and marine mammals in the area.

This information was then used to undertake the impact assessment and produce the marine ecology chapters for the EIAs.
