This is a large reserve including a SAC designated for its population of marsh fritillary butterflies. It includes heath, mire, semi-improved and improved grassland, wet woodland, broad-leaved woodland ponds and scrub.

The work involved compiling all historic records and carrying out an extended Phase 1 and NVC survey of the whole site. This information was then used to prepare a five year management plan. There are a number of important archaeological features including a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a medieval longhouse. There is also a RIGS on the site and the actual Tor receives a relatively high number of visitors. These aspects of the site all had to be taken into account when considering the management of the site.
