The Cornwall Hotel Spa & Estate
Masterplanning and Landscape Design
Client: CMR Leisure / Rudrum Holdings
Date: 2005 to date (completion due in 2010)
The Cornwall Hotel Spa & Estate Development comprises extensive proposals to refurbish the listed existing White House (Grade II listed), extending it to accommodate a brasserie and restaurant, developing bedroom blocks behind the existing house and to place 60 lodges (appr. 100sqm, 2-storey) in the northern, central and southern areas of the site. The development aims to achieve a 4 star listing.
The high quality of the development and its setting in a parkland associated with a Grade II listed building require a suitable landscaping approach of similar quality, whilst still achieving a cost-effective and relatively low maintenance solution.
CEC assisted the client in discharging planning conditions, undertook a tree survey and incorporated masterplan changes as a result of the tree survey. A detailed hard and soft landscape scheme was developed by our landscape department including extensive native buffer and woodland planting, a Cornish style sub-tropical garden within the Walled Garden and high quality courtyards at the main hotel and in the spa area. Our ecology department is responsible for reptile relocation and monitoring, to deal with badger protection and licensing and to obtain EPS Licenses for bats in relation to works in the listed main house and the stable block. Several new artificial bat roosts were implemented on site.
