- Project: A Manual for the Nature Conservation Management
of Metalliferous Mine Sites in Cornwall
Client: English Nature and Cornwall Wildlife Trust
The current practices and available information on the reclamation
and management of metalliferous mining sites in Cornwall were
reviewed and assessed. On the basis of this information, the manual
provided guidance for local government, private landowners and
others on the best practical options currently available for the
management of these sites in terms of their nature conservation
value.
- Project: Falmouth Bay and Estuaries - a Nature Conservation
Overview
Client: Falmouth Bay and Estuaries Initiative
A study drawing together all existing data on habitats, flora
and fauna in the project area, highlighting key areas, features
and species. The identification of nature conservation issues
and management objectives aimed to assist with the development
of projects to safeguard the wildlife conservation interest of
the area and to help in the production of educational and interpretive
material.
- Project: Cornish Killas and Granites Natural Area Profile
Client: English Nature
A report aiming to describe and evaluate the wildlife and
geological features of the Cornish Killas and Granites Natural
Area. The Natural Areas concept is a key part of English Nature's
strategy to help conserve nature in England. The key issues affecting
wildlife and geological features were identified, the need for
action evaluated and objectives set for their conservation. The
profile was written for all those with an interest in - and influence
on - nature conservation within the area identified as the Cornish
Killas and Granites.
- Project: NVC survey of maritime cliffs
Client: English Nature
NVC surveys of two Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs)
on the north Cornwall coastline which lie within a candidate Special
Area of Conservation (cSAC). These SSSIs were notified during
the late 1980s and early 1990s, some years before the National
Vegetation Classification (NVC) system of identifying and mapping
vegetation communities was fully developed. English Nature identified
a need to obtain more information on the vegetation communities
and plant species within the cSAC.
