Cornwall Environmental Consultants Limited

Watching Briefs

Cornwall Environmental Consultants Ltd is involved in projects from their inception to their completion and can provide an overseeing service where on-site advice is given during the construction works. This includes liaison with developers, contractors, archaeologists, engineers and statutory bodies such as English Nature and the Environment Agency.

Example projects:

  • Project: Levant Mine - safety works
Client: Cornwall County Council and National Trust
Ecological advice was given to contractors involved in the consolidation of mine workings and buildings on a derelict tin mine in West Penwith, Cornwall. An advisory role was provided throughout the project from inception to completion. The site falls partly within a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and works were to be undertaken sensitively at all times. Advice on timing of works, best practice, vegetation restoration and location of sensitive species groups was given in order to minimise the impact of the works on habitats and species on the site.
  • Project: Camborne to Portreath pipeline
    Client: South West Water
On-site advice was given to contractors during the excavation of the pipeline trench which stretches across seven kilometres of farmland and two County Wildlife Sites (CWS) from a new screening plant to the outfall at Portreath. Best practice advice and on-site supervision were provided to minimise the impact of the works on the habitats and species of nature conservation importance.
  • Project: Tywarnhayle Mine - safety works
    Client: Cornwall County Council
Tywarnhayle Mine is a derelict mine situated within a coastal SSSI in Porthtowan, Cornwall. This was an advisory project providing on-hand ecological evidence to contractors working on the site. Due to the sensitivity of the site, works were to be undertaken with great care to avoid damaging any species or habitats of conservation importance. Advice was specifically required on the restoration of heathland habitats following degradation caused by the works. Best practice advice and supervision was given during the bird breeding season.
